By May, heat increases in the plains, so head to hill stations near Bangalore.

1.Chikkamagaluru (Best overall choice)

  • Perfect for a 3-day plan

2.Ooty – Coonoor(Nilgiris)

  • Pleasant weather
  • Scenic drives
  • Travel time: ~6-7 hrs

  • 40+ hairpin bends drive

This is peak monsoon travel season in Karnataka – Plan hikes and getaways to hill stations.

This is one of the most suited times to explore and experience the rawness of the western ghats and is a great time to plan rainforest explorations and treks!

1.Agumbe (Rainforest vibes)

  • Foggy roads + waterfalls
  • Travel time: ~8-9 hrs

2.Kudremukh Trek

  • One of the most scenic treks in India
  • Travel time: ~7-8 hrs
  • Total Distance: 16kms

3.Charmadi Ghat Road Trip

  • Epic monsoon drive
  • Travel time: ~6-7 hrs

Offbeat Pick: Bisle Ghat

  • One of the lesser crowded ghats
  • Dense rainforest views
  • Less commercialization

August Travel Window (Optional Leave Plan)

Not a perfect long weekend, but you can still plan a short monsoon escape.

1.Coorg

Note:

  • Both of the above options are equivalent as they are geographically barely 100km apart, you can choose either of them and can not go wrong! Both offer stunning grassland mountain views of different ranges along the western ghats and have beautiful coffee estates (Wayanad has tea estates as well so thats one plus point)
  • Both are however, touristy destinations so definitely do your research and pick your destination for the weekend!

  • Less crowded than Ooty
  • Smooth roads + viewpoints
  • Ideal for a relaxed 2–3 day trip
